TAKE 1- In the philosophical sense, we are all directors, as we manage our choices and direct our own experiences. We let the scenes of our interactions play out as we see fit. We choose our costumes, our dialogue, and how we frame our lives for the world to see. With this process comes edits, some in the form of sacrifices that we may not want to, but must still cut all the same for budget reasons or for the overall good of the project which is us. Other edits may be more of a necessity to ensure happiness and success and productivity and an over all good sense of self and morale. These edits may include friends that at the end of the day are more like enemies, and are no longer needed around. Bad habits and thought patterns should also find refuge on the cutting room floor. Whether we realize it or not, every day we the director, are making edits, whether it be how much we eat, sleep, work, or play. We edit our emotions on how we are affected by the scenes around us. This blog will explore an overview of what I see around me on the stage of life and the players I interact with.
TAKE 2- On a more literal take I will also journal on my trials and tribulations as I take on the role of a first time director through which will be my IPP (Independent Professional Project). In the making of my short film Victoria I will cover edits from the script writing, to making cuts on locations and cast to the final stages of what frames to keep and what frames to go.
What I am learning as I begin to embark on my second year of school is that stress is like an annoying extra, they might try to steal the scenes, but those scenes can get cut. As stress won't do you or your project any good.
I look forward to blogging the edits of life around me and those of my film and for those who follow this, I hope you enjoy it to.
Cut.
